Well, hello everyone!
It's been far too long since I gathered my thoughts however the festive season always inspires me so I thought I would use this opportunity to look back on a wonderful festive season!
For those of you who don't know, I am pregnant! 31 weeks as I type and this year myself and my family were longing for a long lazy Christmas with minimal hosting but still with the delicious food, we all love to eat at this time of year.
Now I do have to give full credit to my husband as he really took the lead in the kitchen and I was demoted to practically kitchen porter status but I'm not complaining because look at this masterpiece...
Okay maybe I am complaining a little because he cooked it perfectly and as previously mentioned, I am very pregnant and cannot eat red meat! I did however manage to enjoy a well-cooked end piece and the delicious cheese and garlic gratin served alongside the beef wellington.
I did pull my weight and I made dessert which was our traditional Orange Syllabub (click here for the recipe) It's the perfect light and refreshing dessert, easy to make and can be done up to 3 days in advance. Perfect!
Now moving on to the big day! Ours started at 3amwhich was not ideal... Poor Sofia had a tooth out on the 23rd and in the night she woke up in extreme pain, raging temperature and sheer panic that Santa would not arrive if he saw she was awake! Some calpol and lots of cuddles later we realised that she was absolutely not going back to sleep so we decided to see if the big man himself had arrived... (of course he did!)
Plenty of presents later (a kitchenaid pasta attachment for me!) and a breakfast of Warm Croissants, Silky Scrambled Egg & Sumptuous Smoked Salmon (sans salmon for me, boooo) it was time for us to all get some more sleep so we were able to face the rest of the day!
We decided to shun the turkey this year (and every other year if I’m honest) in favour of a bit of pork for our Christmas lunch and my husband did a grand job of making a delicious porchetta with all the trimmings.
It was absolutely delicious and he even got the crackling super crispy which we were very pleased with (except for poor Sofia and her poorly tooth!) No dessert today partly because we knew we would all be too full and secondly as we had an invitation down to the in-laws for that evening and wanted to make sure we had room for their food too!
I did have some cheese and biscuits though!
And that about sums up our Christmas! It was maybe the best one we have ever had in my humble opinion! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, whatever your plans were and you're nicely rested going into the new year. Speaking of, tap to read my new year's post here!!
