A Few Foodie Days!

Well hello everyone!

I hope you are all well and enjoying this warm summery weather which has finally arrived. I'mactually not a fan of when the weather is too hot but Ifeel like I need it to fully appreciate the long cold winters when they arrive. Anyway, I’m digressing as per usual...

What I had planned on blogging about was this lovely little break my husband went on for a few days! It included LOTS of food (of course), a beautiful ‘old school’ bed and breakfast and a GORGEOUS vintage YSL cape (spoiler alert, I didn't buy it!)

I had been wanting to visit Frome for a long time after following a lovely quaint bookshop called Sherlock & Pages on Instagram for a while and they made the area look idyllic so I just had to go and see it for myself and I was not disappointed.

First things first, we needed a place to stay and after a look online we found a wonderful, traditional B&B, Rook Lane House, which was right in the centre of Frome AND it had parking which is a huge bonus. Most importantly in my humble opinion, it was just GORGEOUS! It had 3 gorgeous rooms to choose from and we went for the one with the biggest bed and honestly it was just lovely and our host, Claire was wonderfully attentive and cooks a delicious breakfast (more on that later)

We spent our first afternoon wondering around all the little independent shops Frome had to offer and our rumbly tummies were greeted with a lovely lunch at Rise Bakery set in a gorgeous old chapel.

My husband ordered the Pork Meatballs and I ordered the Shakshuka and it was honestly so delicious. The addition of Tahini was genius but sadly my eggs were very overcooked but I was willing to overlook that due to the very healthy amount of bread I was offered for dunking!

Tummies full and satisfied we continued to browse through all the lovely shops that were on offer and I stumbled upon the most gorgeous cape I had ever set my eyes on!! I was gutted when I saw it was vintage YSL as I knew I probably could no longer afford it but I tried it on anyway.

My husband was deep in browsing the men's side of the store so I spent a good few minutes swishing about the shop with it on imagining where I might wear such an article before I decided to look at the price tag…

Now the price I feel was fair at £175 but i just couldn’t justify it!

Sadly, she went back on the rail waiting for the right person to come along and buy her... I did however leave with a really lovely hand knitted, cosy cardigan for the much kinder price of £30!

We then headed back to our room for a powernap and an hour or so of the Olympics before heading back down the steep hill down to our dinner reservation!

Dinner was at the fairly new addition, Little Walcot. The majority of their bar menu was 50% off so of course we sampled everything that we liked the sound of! I’m not even sure where to start with this because everything and I mean everything was so damn good!!!!!

Here is everything we ordered

Wild Mushroom Arancini, Pesto Mayo, Pecorino(wow!)

Anchovies, Grilled Sourdough (we are now obsessed!)

Crispy Pork Bites, Apple Sauce (tasted like a roast pork dinner in a mouthful)

Cods Roe, Fennel Crackers (didn’t love the crackers but was still delish!)

Green Street Beef Burger, Burger Sauce, Cheddar (my husband devoured this)

Beer Battered Monkfish, Watercress, Tartare (spectacular)

Hand Cut Triple Cooked Chips (decent chippies!)

Heritage Tomato Salad, Homewood Feta (10/10, perfection, dropped a tomato on the floor and I'm still gutted to have lost a mouthful) (a dog actually ate it so it didn't go to waste)

I honestly couldn’t fault any of the food and the service was great too! And hence my dog note earlier, they are dog friendly which for me is always a bonus!

After that ridiculous amount of food, we retired to our superking size bed ready for another exciting day to come!

The next morning we woke up feeling still full but our wonderful host was offering us a delicious breakfast and of course we couldn’t resist!! My husband had Smoked Salmon, Scrambled Eggs and a Croissant and I opted for the Shakshuka (again). Both were perfect and my eggs were runny so I was very pleased and all set for a days shopping spree in Bath!

Now Bath is excellent for shopping and both of us managed to pick up a few bargains as there were a few sales on but honestly, we were there for the food! My husband had done a bit of earlier research and decided on a little restaurant called Bardacious who pride themselves on their healthy, fresh, Mexican inspired dishes.

The menu looked fantastic and my husband (who was starving) ordered himself a few dishes including the Ceviche Tostada, Masa Fried Chicken Quesadilla and the Lobster and Crab Quesadilla. All dishes were consumed pretty quickly with a huge smile, lots of head nods and no complaints.

I decided to just have a Tajin Butter Prawn Salad as I wasn’t super hungry (maybe due to the fact I couldn’t resist a little Pain au Chocolate only 30 mins earlier) and I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit disappointed in how small it was! For £20 I kinda expected a bit more?!

The prawns were yummy and buttery but I couldn’ttaste the Tajin sadly but the Guacamole was delicious!!

Then it was back to our rooms for another powernap and more Olympics consumption before our big dinner we had planned!

Dinner was a short walk from our B&B and a recommendation from our host who had left a list of foodie spots she recommends in the grand entrance foyer of her home. My husband can never resist a dirty burger so when we saw there was a local pub, COOP Kitchen at the Ship, about a minutes walkaway serving them, it seemed like a natural choice for our evening meal.

I went for the Cheese Burger Arepas off their specials menu as I had never heard of an Arepa before and I dont think I’ll be in a hurry to order one again I’m afraid! The top was crunchy and the bottom was soggy and a bit unpleasant!

That being said, the filling was delicious as were the Tater Tots, Vegan Slaw and the star of the show was the Frozen Pineapple Lemonade which got me googling their machine to see if I could create this at home. It sadly was over £1000 so I won’t be treating myself to that any time soon haha! My husband had the Korean BBQ Chicken which he loved along with a Blue Cheese Burger which he also devoured!

And once again it was time to retire to our comfy bed ready for another yummy day!

The next morning we woke to the smell of the other guests eating a cooked breakfast which sealed the day for our breakfast choice that morning and it was scrummy! Special mention goes to the sausages which were really delicious!! Belly's fully content we bid farewell to the lovely owner Claire and headed down to Topsham to visit the wonderful Darts Farm

I could have spent a small fortune in the shop here but I managed to get everything in the picture below for a reasonable £52 including the bag!

As well as their wonderful food haul they had lots of lovely clothes , homeware and gifts to peruse as well as a section selling AGAS. I have wanted an AGA my whole life so my husband had to drag me away hah!

Now I never like to be negative but in the brown parcels in the picture of my food shop are a few bits we took home for our dinner including a Steak Pasty (inedible, vile, disgusting, I love a pasty so I was extremely disappointed) and a Pork & Apple Sausage roll which my daughter who bloody loves a sausage roll refused to eat after a few mouthfuls. Moving on...

Darts farm have a variety of eateries and we decided on the most ‘fancy’ one being The Farm Table. You usually need a reservation here but we were lucky enough to get a walk in spot.

My husband spotted the Hogget on the menu and was excited to order this only to be told they didn't actually have any and our server recommended the Rare Breed Pork Saddleback Chop instead. I think my husband was a touch disappointed with his dish however he still managed to clear his plate! I went with the Grilled Brixham Mackerel off the ‘small plates’ and was pleasantly pleased with my portion size and the crispy skin was really scrummy along with a side of Buttered New Potatoes which were equally as delicious.

All in all we were completely spoiled with yummy food and as I sit and type this now I am currently enjoying the Salted Caramel Buttons which I picked up from Darts Farm so the enjoyment is, for me, still ongoing!

Thank you so much for reading and I hope you all enjoyed!!!
